Green Plains Inc. and its joint venture partner Tharaldson Ethanol have announced the successful start-up of the world’s largest MSC system to date at Tharaldson’s 175 million-gallon biorefinery in Casselton, North Dakota. The system, provided by Fluid Quip Technologies, has enabled the production and shipment of on-spec products.
The MSC system has expanded the production of Ultra-High Protein, a high-quality protein ingredient for pet, aquaculture, and other animal feed markets. This technology has achieved a carbon-intensity reduction of up to 40% compared to competing products.
The successful start-up of the MSC system marks a significant milestone in the production of Ultra-High Protein, as it enables the production of higher protein ingredients and record renewable corn oil yields. The project demonstrates Green Plains’ commitment to maximizing the value of every kernel of corn and contributing low-carbon intensity feedstocks for advanced biofuels.
Tharaldson Ethanol’s COO, Ryan Carter, praised the collaboration between Green Plains and Tharaldson, saying that the achievement is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Fluid Quip Technologies provided the MSC technology, engineering, design, procurement, construction management, and startup services for the project.
The completion of the MSC system brings overall annual production capacity for Ultra-High Protein marketed by Green Plains to 430,000 tons.
