Eco Wave Power Global AB welcomes the introduction of the “Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act”, a USA federal legislation aimed at advancing marine energy development towards commercialization. The bill, sponsored by Representatives Nanette Barragán (CA-44) and Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), proposes investing $1 billion in demonstration projects, research and development, resource mapping, workforce development, and permitting processes.
Marine energy harnesses the power of waves, tides, currents, and other water-based resources to generate a clean energy source that can provide reliable 24/7 power to communities. The proposed legislation seeks to accelerate the development of this emerging technology by providing significant funding to the Department of Energy’s Waterpower Technologies Office.
The bill’s introduction comes as Eco Wave Power prepares to install its first U.S. onshore wave energy pilot station at the Port of Los Angeles. Representative Barragán has already visited the site and expressed enthusiasm for the potential of wave energy in California and beyond.
Eco Wave Power CEO Inna Braverman stated that the company is grateful for the recognition of wave energy’s potential and its role in meeting U.S. renewable energy targets and promoting economic growth through the blue economy. She emphasized that wave energy has massive potential and will soon be demonstrating its capabilities at the Port of Los Angeles.
The bill’s cosponsors include Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (Ore.), Ed Case (Hawaii), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Kevin Mullin (Calif.), Val Hoyle (Ore.), Troy Carter (La.), Salud Carbajal (Calif.), and Anne Kuster (NH).
