TotalEnergies has signed a 15-year supply agreement with Quatra, a European used cooking oil recycler. Quatra will supply 60,000 tons of used cooking oil annually to TotalEnergies’ biorefineries as feedstock.
The deal ensures a consistent feedstock source for biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). TotalEnergies stated this supports its green energy goals.
Valérie Goff, Senior Vice President for Renewable Fuels & Chemicals, said, “This agreement helps us secure feedstock for biofuels. Developing biofuels is a strategic priority for us.” She added, “Reducing carbon intensity of our products aligns with our net-zero ambitions.”
Under the agreement, Quatra will collect used cooking oil from restaurants across France and Europe. The oil will be filtered at Quatra sites before being sent to TotalEnergies’ biorefineries. These refineries produce road biofuels and SAF.
TotalEnergies has converted its La Mede and Grandpuits refineries into biorefineries. La Mede, launched in 2019, produces 500,000 tons of biofuel annually. It is France’s only HVO biodiesel plant.
Grandpuits is being transformed into a zero-crude complex. A 230,000-ton SAF biorefinery is scheduled to start operations in 2026. TotalEnergies partners with SARIA to supply most of the feedstock for Grandpuits. SARIA specializes in organic waste collection and reuse.
Ultimately, Pol Van Pollaert, Quatra’s Co-CEO, said, “We believe in long-term partnerships that combine logistics, responsibility, and viability. This deal exemplifies that approach.” He added, “By supplying locally collected cooking oil, we support a sustainable value chain. This allows us to focus on efficient collection across France, turning waste into biofuel.”
