Arkas Bunker has made a significant advancement in Türkiye’s maritime sector by supplying biofuel for the first time. The Arkas Line’s container vessel, Matilde A, successfully received a bunkering of Bio24F—an innovative marine fuel composed of environmentally friendly bio-components derived entirely from waste produced within Türkiye.
The introduction of Bio24F serves as a notable step towards reducing carbon emissions, as the blended fuel can be utilized without the need for modifications to the vessel’s existing fuel system. This development positions Arkas Bunker as a pioneer in the region’s transition to sustainable maritime fuels.
Seckin Gul, General Manager of Arkas Bunker, highlighted the company’s long-standing commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vessels. “Our focus has been on sustainable marine fuels as the primary source of emissions comes from the fuel used by ships. We began our research and development on bio-components three years ago, concentrating on marine biofuels. With the ISCC certification obtained in February, we reach another milestone by introducing Bio24F, which will help shipowners in Türkiye meet their sustainability targets.”
Gul further noted that Arkas is dedicated to the continuous development of new products in collaboration with its expert technical team, leveraging its extensive experience as the operator of Türkiye’s largest container fleet.
Can Atalay, CEO of Arkas Line, also commented on the company’s focus on sustainability, stating that Arkas Line has integrated sustainability principles across all business operations. “Our long-term commitment to not just meet but exceed global industry regulations has established us as a premier choice in maritime transport,” said Atalay.
Arkas Bunker’s introduction of biofuel in Türkiye not only represents a shift towards more environmentally responsible practices in the maritime industry but also underscores the potential for sustainable solutions to play a pivotal role in future operations within the sector.
