Naturgy has announced a partnership with Hispania Silva, a waste valorization company focused on the agri-food sector, to develop between 20 and 30 biogas production plants across Spain by 2030. The initiative is expected to generate approximately 2.5 TWh of biogas annually, sufficient to meet the energy needs of around 500,000 households.
The biogas plants will utilize organic waste to create renewable energy, supporting the decarbonization of the economy by reducing CO₂ emissions by an estimated 450,000 tons—equal to the impact of planting 49 million pine trees.
The alliance aims to optimize the entire renewable gas value chain, incorporating waste management alongside biogas production.
The biogas generated will be integrated into existing natural gas distribution networks, allowing households and industries to transition to cleaner energy without significant investment in new infrastructure.
Additionally, the project is anticipated to promote job creation and contribute to local economies by providing organic fertilizers and irrigation water.
Naturgy already operates three biogas production facilities and is developing two more in the Valencia and Sevilla regions, demonstrating its commitment to expanding renewable energy projects.
