Dětmarovice is currently the site of significant energy transformation as ČEZ Teplárenská embarks on the construction of new biomass and gas facilities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize energy production in the region, with new infrastructure being developed alongside existing plants.
In a strategic move to support this transition, ČEZ has finalized long-term contracts for biomass supply with four suppliers located in the Moravian-Silesian region. This heating season marks a pivotal change, as it will be the final season where coal is used in heat production. The reduction of coal reliance aligns with a national trend toward sustainable energy solutions. The facilities in Dětmarovice will continue to deliver consistent heating to around 15,000 homes in the neighboring towns of Orlová and Bohumín.
The newly planned low-emission heating plant is expected to utilize approximately 25,000 tons of biomass each year, coupled with natural gas. Despite challenges such as recent flooding, the heating season commenced on schedule, signifying a key step away from coal dependency.
Kamil Čermák, CEO of ČEZ ESCO and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ČEZ Teplárenská, stated, “Our goal is to provide reliable energy services in the Moravian-Silesian region while ensuring the transition to more sustainable energy sources.” He added, “By establishing partnerships with regional biomass suppliers, we are taking concrete steps towards making Dětmarovice a benchmark for energy modernization in the Czech Republic.”
The shift to these more environmentally friendly energy sources is anticipated to result in substantial reductions in harmful emissions, including CO2, sulfur, nitrogen, and particulate matter, with potential decreases of up to 97 percent. This project underscores ČEZ Teplárenská’s commitment to enhancing the region’s energy landscape while prioritizing environmental sustainability.
