Axalta Coating Systems (AXTA), a leading global coatings company, has introduced the Alesta® BioCore™ line of powder coatings. This new offering aims to reduce the environmental impact of the coatings industry by utilising non-food organic waste as a raw material.
Alesta® BioCore™ boasts a potential 25% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional powder coatings that rely on fossil fuel-based polyester resins. This decrease in greenhouse gas emissions can contribute to a more sustainable future for the coatings industry. The new range marks another milestone for Axalta after becoming the first manufacturer within the powder coatings industry to receive the ISCC Plus accreditation for biobased feedstock sourcing practices earlier this year.
The biobased materials used in Alesta® BioCore™ are carefully sourced from non-food waste, ensuring no competition with food production. Importantly, these biobased coatings maintain the same performance and properties as their traditional counterparts.
Companies in construction, architecture, and industry can leverage Alesta® BioCore™ to minimise their environmental impact. By switching to these biobased coatings, they can potentially reduce their Scope 3 emissions, which account for indirect greenhouse gases generated throughout the value chain.
