TômTex, a material science company, showcased its most advanced biomaterial textile innovation at New York Fashion Week. This event marked a significant milestone in sustainable luxury materials. Unlike experimental options still in development, TômTex’s new textile is fully manufacturable today. It is entirely bio-based, biodegradable, and performs like high-quality leather—all without fossil carbon or petrochemicals.
The new material is engineered using proprietary biomaterials that mimic nature’s own design principles. Instead of relying on petroleum-based shortcuts, TômTex creates textiles directly from biological foundations. This approach results in a fabric with excellent drape and a premium hand feel that rivals the finest natural materials. The biomaterial boasts zero fossil carbon content and is fully biodegradable, ensuring it breaks down naturally after use.
It also offers industrial-grade durability suitable for long-term wear and has programmable features that allow for different textures, finishes, and forms. Importantly, the material is compatible with existing manufacturing systems, making adoption seamless for designers and producers.
NY Fashion Week demonstrated TômTex’s most comprehensive ready-to-wear collection to date. Collaborations with visionary designers Allina Liu and Gabe Gordon highlighted the material’s immediate commercial viability.
At Allina Liu’s show, TômTex was used to craft a sleek black suit jacket, leather-like pants, and a mid-length skirt emphasizing structure and drapability. Meanwhile, Gabe Gordon presented two variations of trench coats. One was a midi-length for women and the other a cropped version for men, showcasing the textile’s durability and edgy aesthetic.
These collections showcased how TômTex’s biomaterial can be used across a variety of silhouettes, emphasizing its potential to redefine luxury fashion. It proved that biomaterials are no longer just future concepts but are ready for the runway and retail markets.
