The LYCRA Company showcases bio-derived LYCRA EcoMade fiber

The LYCRA Company showcased its bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber at Kingpins Amsterdam on April 16-17. Set to launch commercially later this year, the bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber will be sourced from annually renewable dent corn from Iowa.

This fiber provides transparency regarding raw material origin and supports sustainability. Composed of 70 percent renewable content, it may reduce the carbon footprint of LYCRA® fiber by up to 44 percent. This innovative fiber offers equivalent performance to the original LYCRA® fiber. It serves as a one-to-one replacement, needing no re-engineering.

Arnaud Ruffin, The LYCRA Company’s vice president of brands and retail, commented on the growing consumer demand for sustainable products. He highlighted that bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber delivers sustainability without compromising quality.

The “7 Styles for 7 Days” project demonstrates how denim made with bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber can enhance wardrobes. The project emphasizes lasting comfort, fit, and shape while reducing environmental impact. This collaboration features The LYCRA Company and Diamond Denim, part of the Pakistan-based Sapphire Group.

ORTA, a Turkish denim manufacturer, also presented samples made with bio-derived LYCRA® EcoMade fiber and regenerative cotton. According to Sebla Onder, ORTA’s marketing and sustainability manager, the market’s positive response to their collection launched in late 2024 is promising.
