K&R Solutions leads adoption of CiCLO® Bio Knit Fabric for signage in airports across the US

K&R Solutions Group announced the widespread adoption of its Bio Knit SEG fabric. The fabric is made in the United States using CiCLO® technology. This technology helps reduce microplastic pollution. It also ensures that signage remains durable and vibrant.

Intrinsic Advanced Materials, a joint venture between Parkdale Advanced Materials and Intrinsic Textiles Group, produces the fabric. The fabric is being used in over 30 airports across the country. It is also installed in corporate and retail spaces nationwide.

Bio Knit is created by embedding CiCLO into polyester fibers. This process forms pathways where microbes can biodegrade the material naturally. If the fabric ends up in soil or seawater, it will break down over time. The fabric is printed with OEKO-TEX® certified inks. These inks meet international safety and environmental standards.

Cheryl Smyre, Vice President of Parkdale Advanced Materials, explained that CiCLO was developed to reduce the environmental impact of synthetic textiles. While initially aimed at apparel and home products, its use now extends to public spaces. Smyre said this innovation can transform many industries that use synthetics. It combines high performance with sustainability.

Many airports now feature signage made with Bio Knit fabric. These include Augusta Regional Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Dayton International Airport, Des Moines International Airport, Gainesville Regional Airport, Hilton Head Island Airport, Kansas City International Airport, Clinton National Airport, Norfolk International Airport, Peoria International Airport, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, and Richmond International Airport.

The goal is to meet the demand for large-format fabric signage while addressing environmental concerns. This initiative highlights a shift towards environmentally responsible materials in public spaces.

Overall, the adoption of Bio Knit with CiCLO technology shows a commitment to reducing microplastic pollution. It offers a durable, vibrant signage solution that is also environmentally friendly.
