Fashion industry convened in Copenhagen to address sustainability

More than 1,000 fashion industry stakeholders convened in Copenhagen from 5-7 May for the Global Fashion Summit 2026. The event brought together brands, retailers, policymakers, manufacturers, and innovators to tackle pressing sustainability challenges.

The summit explored the theme “Building Resilient Futures.” Organized by Global Fashion Agenda, a nonprofit accelerating the transition to sustainable fashion, the forum featured contributions from major companies including Kering, LVMH, Chanel, H&M Group, and Patagonia. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark attended the closing celebration dinner.

Global Fashion Agenda CEO Federica Marchionni emphasized the urgency of action. She challenged leaders to invest in product integrity, build circular infrastructure, and ensure technology enhances rather than replaces human workers. “Resilience means adapting to shocks while moving toward sustainability,” Marchionni said during her opening remarks.

The summit yielded several concrete initiatives. Global Fashion Agenda and BCG launched the Fashion CFO Agenda 2026, positioning finance leaders as key drivers of sustainability integration. The organization also introduced the 2030 Circularity Blueprint in partnership with ReHubs to advance textile-to-textile recycling across the EU.

Designer Kévin Germanier showcased his Spring-Summer 2026 collection, created entirely from upcycled LVMH products and materials. The presentation demonstrated how luxury brands can transform unsold inventory into desirable new pieces.

Synflux won the 2026 Trailblazer Programme, receiving equity investment and support to scale its innovative solution. Meanwhile, emerging designer MARTAN took home the Grand Prize in Visa Young Creators: Recycle the Runway.

Pandora announced it will share carbon footprint data for every lab-grown diamond in its collection, adding environmental transparency to traditional quality metrics.

The Innovation Forum featured 24 solution providers showcasing next-generation materials and end-of-use technologies. Over 450 introductions connected innovators with potential partners and investors.

Fourteen leadership roundtables addressed topics including climate adaptation in luxury supply chains and navigating sustainability labeling requirements. These sessions generated actionable insights and new collaborative opportunities.

The summit underscored that sustainability in fashion requires immediate, coordinated action across the entire value chain.
