EnviTec Biogas, a leading German biogas producer, is entering the US market. The company specializes in anaerobic digestion (AD) of poultry manure to produce biogas.
For 23 years, EnviTec Biogas has utilized chicken manure to generate biogas, renewable natural gas (RNG), and bio-Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) in Germany.
Timothy Logan, president of EnviTec Biogas Construction, emphasizes the underdeveloped market for chicken manure in US biogas and gas upgrading plants.
Logan explains that chicken manure is a valuable fertilizer when unprocessed. This has reduced interest in utilizing it through AD for biogas production.
Despite this, EnviTec Biogas sees substantial potential in the US market. Each year, over 30 million tons of broiler and layer manure are generated, creating opportunities in biogas.
This waste has the potential to generate over 400 million British thermal units (mmBtu) of biogas per day. This amount can meet the heating demands of approximately 3.7 million homes.
EnviTec Biogas aims to leverage its expertise in AD to produce various revenue streams, including biogas, RNG, and bio-LNG.
The company has integrated ammonia stripping technology, which can provide an additional revenue stream through ammonium sulfate production.
EnviTec Biogas operates a large-scale biogas plant in Güstrow, Germany, processing over 110,000 tons of chicken litter feedstock annually. The facility upgrades the biogas to RNG and compresses it into LNG.
Additionally, CO2-rich off-gas from this plant is refined and turned into liquefied CO2 (LCO2).
The company plans to support the emerging chicken manure-to-AD market in the US, with several projects already in development stages.
