Avantium announces rights offering to fund next-gen sustainable processes

Avantium N.V has announced the launch of a fully committed and underwritten rights offering totaling €65 million. The capital increase aims to support the company’s development until it reaches EBITDA break-even, expected in 2027, and aligns with its comprehensive financing strategy announced earlier in August.

The offering includes 12,103,283 new ordinary shares at an issue price of €5.40 per share. Major shareholders, including VP Capital NV, Pieter Kooi Holding B.V., and Navitas B.V., have committed to cornerstone investments and irrevocable commitments totaling €12.25 million, accounting for 18.7% of the offering.

Avantium’s CEO, Tom van Aken, highlighted the company’s recent technical achievements. He noted the successful start-up of the sugar dehydration unit at the FDCA Flagship Plant, a key step in producing the plant-based intermediate MMF. The company is progressing with the final phases of plant commissioning, with commercial operations anticipated in early 2026. This will enable the launch of its circular, plant-based material branded as releaf®, which is already supported by 20 offtake agreements.

Van Aken emphasized that this funding is essential for continuing development of innovative biomaterials and renewable chemicals. The support from longstanding shareholders, public partners, and the Dutch government—including the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth—is seen as a strong endorsement of Avantium’s mission to lead the transition to sustainable, circular chemistry. The Dutch government has committed to act as an underwriter and will subscribe to any portion of the €15 million underwriting not utilized in the offering.

Avantium expressed gratitude toward its existing investors and welcomed new supporters who share its vision of building a sustainable future through innovation in renewable biomaterials and circular processes. The funding will help accelerate the company’s technological progress and commercial deployment of plant-based, circular materials.
