Zentiva achieves SBTi validation for climate targets

Zentiva announced it has received validation of its climate targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The validation confirms Zentiva’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The company aims to align its decarbonization efforts with the European Union’s goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050.

The company set both near-term and long-term targets based on SBTi’s methodology. These targets follow the Paris Agreement and climate science. Unlike claims of carbon neutrality, SBTi emphasizes deep emission cuts, up to 90%, before using carbon removals for residual emissions.

Zentiva’s overall goal is to reach net-zero GHG emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. The company aims to cut scope 1 and 2 emissions by 63% by 2034, from a 2021 baseline. Scope 3 emissions are also targeted for a 63% reduction by 2034 from a 2024 baseline.

Long-term, Zentiva targets a 90% reduction in scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2050. The company’s climate targets are publicly available on the SBTi Target dashboard.

The SBTi framework is internationally recognized for setting credible corporate climate goals. It promotes transparency and aligns with global climate objectives.

Zentiva’s sustainability strategy is based on three pillars: People, Partners, and Planet. The company focuses on responsible practices, reducing energy, water, and waste, and restoring biodiversity. Its approach emphasizes governance and long-term value.

Ines Windisch, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, stated: “We are proud of our validated climate targets. Turning ambition into action is essential to fight climate change. Our decarbonization strategy is key to making a real impact with our team and partners. Every step counts.”
