Teknor Apex, a global leader in plastic materials, announced it has acquired Danimer Scientific. The deal aims to expand Teknor’s sustainable materials offerings. Danimer is a bioplastics company specializing in biodegradable materials. Its headquarters are in Bainbridge, Georgia. The company operates two facilities with over 200,000 square feet of laboratories and manufacturing space.
Danimer has developed renewable, biodegradable biopolymers for more than a decade. Its products include additives, coatings, fibers, films, adhesives, and single-use items like straws and packaging. The company holds more than 480 patents across over 20 countries. Its biopolymers are used in various consumer and industrial applications.
Danimer will continue to operate as a separate entity. It will retain its name, team, and vision. The acquisition aims to strengthen Teknor’s position in the market for bioplastics. Don Wiseman, CEO of Teknor Apex, stated that Danimer’s fermentation process enhances their product range. He said the company’s expertise in biopolymer resins like PHAs and PLA will support their growth.
Phil Van Trump, Teknor’s Chief Science & Technology Officer, said the partnership will accelerate R&D efforts. It will help scale operations and reach new customers. Van Trump emphasized their shared mission to replace traditional plastics with environmentally friendly materials.
This move allows Teknor Apex to expand its portfolio of recycled, biobased, and climate-positive solutions. The company aims to support customers’ sustainability goals.
