Gaia Biomaterials has announced the appointment of MFI Polymers as their official commercial representative based in Brazil, effective immediately.
MFI Polymers, a firm led by Dr. Mercia Fernandes, specializes in sustainable polymer solutions. She holds a PhD in Polymer Science and has extensive academic background in polymers, dedicating her research to sustainability and developing degradable materials.
Gaia Biomaterials, based in Sweden, produces Biodolomer, a limestone-based alternative to conventional plastic that is fully compostable and environmentally friendly. The vast size of Brazil creates challenges in building recycling infrastructure, leading to significant interest in compostable products like Biodolomer.
“The market in Brazil for sustainable alternatives to fossil-fuel-based plastics is exceptionally large and shows immense potential for growth,” states Dr. Fernandes. “When I discovered Gaia Biomaterials, I realized it was exactly what I sought—a genuine compostable alternative that completely avoids microplastics. I envision significant potential for rigid materials, such as straws and cups, alongside flexible films for food packaging and agriculture.”
“For researchers, explaining the distinctions between Gaia’s products and competing materials is straightforward, and people often recognize their quality immediately. Once individuals understand the advantages, they tend to become loyal supporters of Gaia’s innovations and sustainable solutions,” she affirms.
“I am confident that many businesses throughout Brazil will transition to using Biodolomer in the near future as awareness grows.”
