DP CleanTech secures contract for €50 M biomass project in Spain

DP CleanTech has been awarded a significant contract to design, engineer, and deliver a 50MWe biomass boiler and flue gas cleaning system for the La Robla Green Project in Castilla y León, Spain. This ambitious initiative aims to transform Europe’s renewable fuels landscape.

Led by Reolum, the €850 million project will integrate a 50MWe biomass power plant (Roblum), a 200MW green hydrogen electrolysis facility, and a green e-methanol plant (La Robla Nueva Energia). The facility will produce over 140,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually, demonstrating a circular, carbon-negative energy ecosystem through biomass use and carbon capture.

The biomass plant will send combustion gases to a dedicated carbon capture unit, where biogenic CO₂ will be extracted. This CO₂ will be combined with renewable-produced green hydrogen from the electrolysis plant to generate green e-methanol. The fuel will serve hard-to-bate sectors, providing a low-carbon alternative for maritime transport and a feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Located in Castilla y León, the project will utilize locally sourced agricultural biomass, such as straw, supporting local employment and economic growth. The infrastructure will also enable efficient export of green e-methanol to global markets, aligning with EU renewable energy and climate objectives.

Simon Parker, CEO of DP CleanTech, commented, “The La Robla Green Project is a major step forward in sustainability, creating a virtuous circle from biomass to clean energy and fuels. It exemplifies our mission to valorize biomass and sets a new benchmark for integrated biomass combustion, carbon capture, and green fuel production in Europe.”
