DMC Bio raises $18M to scale precision fermentation ingredients

DMC Biotechnologies has raised $18 million to expand its precision fermentation business. The Boulder-based company makes high-purity health ingredients through fermentation. Inceptional Partners and Sofinnova Partners co-led the round. First Bight Ventures joined, along with existing investors Cibus Capital and Capricorn Partners.

DMC’s KeyPura portfolio is built on that fermentation platform. It currently includes myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol. The two ingredients complement each other. They are used in reproductive health, metabolic wellness, infant nutrition and other specialty nutrition formulations.

Precision fermentation gives formulators a different route to ingredient quality. DMC says the approach supports purity, consistency, traceability and reliable supply. These qualities are in growing demand across the health and wellness sector.

The new funding will go toward commercialising the KeyPura portfolio. DMC also plans to develop new bioactive ingredients. It wants to reach more customers across the health, wellness and personal care markets. That includes strengthening customer and distribution relationships.

CEO Jim Flatt said the investment opens an important new chapter for the company. He said DMC has shown it can develop and produce high-quality ingredients through fermentation. The focus now is turning that capability into wider adoption, new products and long-term growth.

Andras Forgacs sits on DMC’s board and is founder and managing partner of Inceptional Partners. He said the company has built a differentiated technology platform. With its first products established, he said, DMC is positioned for its next phase of commercial growth. He added that the investment reflects confidence in the team, the technology and the long-term opportunity.

DMC says its strategy pairs proprietary biotechnology with a market-driven approach. The company says it has scalable production and room to pursue new opportunities in the wider health ingredients market.
