Braskem unveils innovative bio-based solutions at K 2025

Braskem, a leader in industrial-scale biopolymer production, has finished showcasing at K 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Braskem revealed a new generation of bio-based and circular product solutions aimed at transforming the plastics industry. Under its sustainable portfolio, the company is unveiling product launches and partnerships across packaging, healthcare, hygiene, and consumer goods sectors.

“K 2025 is the perfect platform to demonstrate how our innovations are ready for real-world application,” said Walmir Soller, VP of Olefins/Polyolefins for North America, Europe, and Asia. “We are not just testing the market; we are scaling solutions that combine technical performance with environmental benefits.”

One of the new products is an MDO film made with I’m green™ bio-based PE. This film, derived from sugarcane ethanol, offers enhanced stiffness, optical clarity, and recyclability. It enables mono-material packaging like flow packs and stand-up pouches, supporting circular economy goals. Developed with Cazoolo and FCO Group, this innovation aligns with sustainable packaging trends.

Braskem also introduced Medcol, a low-density polyethylene under the I’m green™ brand. It’s designed for pharmaceutical applications such as blow-fill-seal processes and plastic ampoules with twist-off caps. The material meets regulatory standards without additives and has improved temperature resistance. Its Life Cycle Assessment (2023) shows a carbon footprint of -2.27 kgCO₂e per kg, emphasizing its sustainability.

For non-wovens, Braskem launched I’m green™ bio-based HDPE. This high-density polyethylene is ideal for hygiene products like diapers. It offers low gel levels, excellent processing stability, and improved heat and color resistance. Its latest LCA reports a carbon footprint of -2.01 kgCO₂e per kg, reinforcing its role in sustainable hygiene solutions.
