Arkema has unveiled a new line of biobased specialty additives aimed at enhancing sustainable coatings and adhesives products. Helene Pernot, Global Sustainability Marketing Director at Coating Solutions, said these innovations help customers meet sustainability and carbon footprint reduction goals.
The biobased acrylic thickeners will be utilized in various applications. These include architectural paints, industrial coatings, plasters, adhesives, and sealants. Yohann Trang, Global Market Director for Construction Materials at Coating Solutions, stated that these thickeners provide identical performance and cost benefits for customers, marking a significant evolution towards sustainability across the value chain.
The new products will be marketed under the Rheotech™, Thixol™, and Viscoatex™ brands. They will be the first to feature bio-sourced ethyl acrylate produced at Arkema’s acrylic monomer facility in Carling, France.
Arkema’s biobased products are either wholly or partly derived from biomass, which mainly includes materials like beetroot and sugarcane. The biobased content is calculated based on a carbon ratio in accordance with EN16640 standards.
The company aims to position itself as a leading player in Specialty Materials, with a focus on innovative and sustainable solutions. Arkema operates in three key segments: Adhesive Solutions, Advanced Materials, and Coating Solutions, which represent about 92% of projected sales.
In addition to developing sustainable materials, Arkema addresses challenges related to new energies, water access, recycling, urbanization, and mobility. The Group fosters ongoing dialogue with its stakeholders to drive these initiatives.
