Anaergia DB Inc., a subsidiary of Anaergia based in Canada, has reached a technology supply agreement with PepsiCo Alimentos Z.F. LTDA to implement advanced biogas digestion and conditioning technology at PepsiCo’s food production facility in Funza, located in the Metropolitan Area of Bogotá, Colombia.

The new biogas system is designed to transform approximately 50,000 tons of organic waste generated at the facility each year into renewable natural gas. This biogas process aims to reduce the facility’s reliance on fossil natural gas and is projected to lower greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 3,700 tons of CO2 annually.

PepsiCo’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Jim Andrews, emphasized the importance of the biogas initiative in contributing to the company’s carbon reduction commitments. “By utilizing Anaergia’s biogas solutions, PepsiCo will be generating renewable natural gas from our residue streams and reducing our carbon footprint,” he stated.

Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, highlighted that this marks the third continent where the company is collaborating with PepsiCo. He reiterated the company’s commitment to helping clients meet their environmental and economic goals through innovative biogas-to-energy solutions.
