Amtico releases bio-based luxury vinyl tiles

British flooring company Amtico has presented its new Amtico Bio, a bio-attributed luxe vinyl tile  made from renewable materials derived from paper pulp.

The paper pulp is sourced and collected from responsibly managed forests that are specifically maintained for the paper pulping industry.

According to the company, Amtico Bio is made using an organic by-product of the paper pulping process. It is turned into ethylene and then into vinyl to be used as flooring, cutting carbon emissions by more than 90 per cent compared to fossil fuels.

Using the Mass Balance principle, Amtico balances the amount of renewable PVC with the amount of low-carbon flooring they can make. Essentially, every time a Amtico Bio product is ordered, the full amount of renewable material needed to make it is added into the company’s production process. The whole process is independently audited to achieve ISCC PLUS certification for total transparency. Because of this, the product can be specified for projects requiring the highest environmental standards.

“This ensures our bio-attributed flooring is affordable and accessible for everyone, as well as supports the next step in PVC’s sustainability journey,” said Amtico marketing director Holly Johnson.
