Allonnia achieves key milestone in sustainable mineral processing

Allonnia, a bio-ingenuity company, reached a significant milestone in commercializing its D-Solve™ process. This process is a bolt-on technology aimed at sustainably upgrading mineral concentrates. A recent demonstration at SGS’ metallurgical lab in Lakefield, Ontario, confirmed the effectiveness of Allonnia’s Biosolution in a continuous process using nickel-sulfide concentrate.

The Allonnia Biosolution™ is central to the D-Solve process. It allows mine sites to increase onsite production, reduce tailings and slag, and lower CO2 emissions significantly.

Demand for critical materials such as nickel, copper, lithium, and rare earth elements is rapidly increasing. This surge is driven by electrification and artificial intelligence. The mining industry must address challenges in sustainably processing low-grade ores. Allonnia’s D-Solve process aims to transform traditional mineral processing flowsheets.

During the SGS demonstration, Allonnia’s Biosolution achieved a 40% reduction in magnesium impurities. It also resulted in an 18% increase in nickel grade, improving nickel recovery significantly. Implementation of this solution across the flowsheet is expected to reduce downstream costs by removing impurities.

“This demonstration is a pivotal step in proving the commercial potential of our D-Solve process,” said Nicole Richards, Allonnia CEO. “By collaborating with industry leaders, we show how biological innovation can redefine mining practices.”
