Alfa Laval, a Swedish company specializing in fluid handling, centrifugal, and heat transfer solutions, has secured contracts worth US$31.8 million to supply technology to Cepsa Bioenergia San Roque’s biofuel joint venture with Bio-Oils Energy in Huelva, Spain.

The biofuel facility, scheduled to be operational in 2026, will double Cepsa’s total renewable fuels production, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel, to 1 million tonnes per year. The facility will source most of its feedstock, including organic waste such as agricultural residues or used cooking oils, through a long-term agreement with Bio-Oils’ parent company, Apical.

As part of the contract, Alfa Laval’s Food & Water Division will supply two pre-treatment units to the €1.2 billion project. The company’s president for the Food & Water Division, Sammy Hulpiau, stated that the increased capacity in the biofuel industry is essential for meeting global demand.

The biofuel plant is designed to reduce CO2 emissions by 75% compared to traditional biofuel plants.
