BiOrbic Research Ireland Centre for Bioeconomy is opening a second Industry Collaboration Call. The initiative invites researchers and businesses to develop new bioeconomy solutions together.
The call spans several sectors. These include agri-food, forestry, marine and biotechnology. It builds on the first Collaboration Call, which launched in August 2025.
Applications open on 17 August 2026. They close on 30 September 2026.
The programme connects companies with BiOrbic’s research community. Businesses work directly with scientists to develop evidence-based solutions. The goal is practical innovation, not just academic research.
Seán Douglas, business development manager at BiOrbic, said the first call drew a wide range of projects. These covered wastewater treatment, biodiversity loss, and agricultural emissions reduction. Some projects also applied AI and machine learning to bioeconomy challenges.
Eligible projects must align with BiOrbic’s research priorities. These include sustainable forestry and resilient agricultural systems. Bioenergy and renewable biological resources are also key areas. So are sustainable chemicals and materials made from renewable feedstocks.
Public engagement is part of the mix too. BiOrbic wants projects that build awareness and support the wider transition to a bioeconomy. Life cycle assessment and other systems-based methods are encouraged, helping companies measure environmental, economic and social impact.
The call is open to both Irish and international companies.
