New bio-based ziptop bags from Lunchskins offer eco-friendly solution

Lunchskins is expanding its eco-friendly product line with a new innovation: bio-based, home compostable, freezer-safe Ziptop Storage Bags.  The product will be available nationwide in Kroger stores starting August 2025, in Sandwich and Gallon sizes.

The new bags are crafted from certified bio-based materials like PLA and cornstarch, which naturally break down in composting conditions. Eco-minded consumers have long sought storage solutions that combine sustainability, safety, and performance. Lunchskins has answered this call. The bags are engineered to perform like traditional plastic but are made from renewable, plant-derived sources.

Kirsten Quigley, CEO of Lunchskins, said, “Our commitment is to develop products that protect people and the planet.”  She added, “These compostable bags deliver high performance while reducing environmental impact, offering a safer alternative to fossil fuel plastics.”

Made to break down in both home and industrial composting environments, they meet strict certification standards.

The product is leak-resistant, freezer-safe, and versatile, suitable for snacks, prep, pantry, or freezer storage. Available in three sizes—Snack, Sandwich, and Gallon—these bags combine durability with sustainability.
