Q.E.D Environmental Systems, Inc. (QED), a leading manufacturer of innovative environmental products and subsidiary of Graco Inc, has signed a carbon neutral services agreement with United Parcel Service (UPS®) in order to reduce the environmental impact of shipping products to customers.
UPS’ carbon emissions calculator will be used to calculate the CO2 emissions of QED’s shipments, which it will then offset by purchasing carbon credits. UPS® will also provide an annual report of calculations, with the goal of demonstrating total carbon savings throughout the year.
A single carbon offset equates to one metric ton of CO2 emissions, with offsets created and sold through carbon reduction projects. These projects often revolve around carbon capture and sequestration.
Dean Kavanagh, Managing Director at QED Environmental Systems, said: “Facilitating a move towards more sustainable practice is one of our key business objectives for the year, so making such strong progress so early on is always pleasing.
“Through striking this agreement with UPS®, we can begin to make incremental green changes to the way we operate, beginning with offsetting the carbon emissions of delivering our products to customers.”
QED’s Carbon Neutral Services Agreement agreement with UPS is just the latest development in a growing portfolio of initiatives to lower the company’s environmental impact. Their Environment and Community Committee is currently studying the possibility of introducing a solar panel array for the company’s UK premises at Cyan Park, in Coventry as well as many other measures to help reduce energy consumption within the building.
Since moving to the site from its former office in Leamington, the company has also maintained a significant reduction in paper usage, with initiatives around digitising Calibration Certificates set to come in the future.
Dean concluded: “We have long championed greener practice through our products, which allow countless sectors across the world to minimise their impact on the environment through effective analysis, detection and remediation techniques. It’s for this very reason that we have struck a Carbon Neutral Services Agreement with UPS®, with a view to promoting sustainability from one end of our operations to another.”
