PLASTICS’ Bioplastics Division is currently hosting the seventh-annual Bioplastics Week, a social media campaign to increase visibility for bioplastics, promoting conversations via social media posts. In case you missed it, here’s our coverage from days 1 and 2.

Wednesday, September 15

Third day of Bioplastics Week

The theme today was the complicated world of advertising and buying bioplastic products. Producers from all around the globe came together through social media platforms using the hashtag #BioplasticsWeek and discussed the products they make from bioplastics and their benefits.

There was an online interview with Derek Jones, Branch Chief of the Public Private Partnerships Branch from the USDA BioPreferred Program titled “Buying Bioplastics: US Federal Procurement Opportunities”

Thursday, September 16 

Fourth day of Bioplastics Week

Thursday’s theme was “Beyond the Bin”. It was a day filled with information about the end of life of bioplastics. Experts discussed online about where bioplastics go and shared different processes and reuse options.

The 2021 Innovation in Bioplastics Award winner was announced and awarded to Eastman for developing Aventa Renew, a cellulose-based compostable material that will help the foodservice industry achieve its sustainability goals in food packaging applications.

Video interviews were amazing as always, with a chat named “Comparing Apples and Oranges: Compare LCAs with Caution” hosted by Constance Ißbrücker, Head of

Environmental Affairs from European Bioplastics. It was followed by an informative talk “Advanced Recycling of Polylactic Acid” with Derek Martin, the VP Sales and Business Development for America and Europe in Total Corbion.
