Darling Ingredients Inc. and Diamond Green Diesel (DGD) have announced a joint venture to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to support commercial air travel. DGD’s Port Arthur, Texas, facility will provide 1 million gallons of neat SAF for commercial air travel out of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), with an option to supply an additional 4 million gallons, as part of a 12-month agreement with Valero Marketing and Supply Company and World Fuel Services.

The SAF will be blended with conventional jet fuel to create a blended SAF product, which is expected to be delivered to JetBlue through World Fuel. The project is set to come online in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the potential to upgrade approximately 50% of DGD’s current annual production capacity to SAF. Once complete, DGD is expected to be one of the largest SAF manufacturers globally.

“Darling Ingredients and its joint venture partner have demonstrated for more than 10 years that DGD is the lowest cost, lowest carbon intensity and most profitable renewables producer in the market,” said Randall C. Stuewe, Chairman and CEO. “Our partner’s technical and operational expertise, coupled with our knowledge and unmatched supply of waste fats and oils, make DGD the leader in decarbonizing the heavy haul transportation and aviation sectors.”
