U.S. – Global biofuel partnership to scale renewable methanol production

Emvolon, a Massachusetts-based company specializing in renewable fuel technology, announced a strategic partnership with Freepoint Commodities, a global commodities merchant. The collaboration intends to accelerate the production and distribution of renewable methanol, a low-carbon fuel with growing market demand.

By combining Emvolon’s proprietary conversion technology with Freepoint’s extensive logistics network, the partnership aims to scale up the supply of renewable methanol globally. This fuel, valued for its sustainability, can be produced at various sites such as landfills, dairies, wastewater facilities, and flare gas locations.

Methane, a potent greenhouse gas contributing approximately 15% of global emissions, is the primary feedstock for Emvolon’s process. The company’s modular chemical plants can be installed directly at waste sources, converting methane into transportable liquid fuel. This approach not only reduces emissions but also creates revenue streams from waste gases.

The collaboration’s initial goal is to produce 6,000 tons of renewable methanol annually by 2027, with plans to increase output to 50,000 tons by 2030. This scaled production aims to meet the rising global demand for sustainable fuels, particularly in shipping, aviation, and chemical industries.

Emvolon’s CEO, Emmanuel Kasseris, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential. “This collaboration leverages Freepoint’s market expertise to bring renewable methanol to a broader audience,” he stated. Similarly, Mark Lay, Managing Director of Freepoint, emphasized their commitment to sustainable solutions, highlighting the alignment with Emvolon’s innovative technology.
