Certis Biologicals launches EU-authorized NemaClean biocontrol in Netherlands

Certis Biologicals, in collaboration with Certis-Belchim, announced the registration of NemaClean®, a new biocontrol nematicide. This innovative product is formulated with the Purpureocillium lilacinum microorganism (strain PL11) and addresses root-knot nematode infestations.

The Netherlands has become the first country to authorize NemaClean as a low-risk product specifically aimed at controlling root-knot nematodes in fruiting vegetables from the Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae families.

Following its authorization in the Netherlands, NemaClean is now undergoing regulatory assessments in several key European markets. These include Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, and Denmark, where there is significant demand for effective solutions against root-knot nematodes.

Root-knot nematodes are known to be a damaging pest that has become increasingly challenging to manage due to a decline in conventional control options. NemaClean operates by infecting nematode eggs and juveniles with Purpureocillium lilacinum strain PL11. The fungus multiplies within the host, filling the body cavity with endospores and ultimately leading to the nematode’s death.

NemaClean not only curbs the damage caused by nematode infestations but also positively influences the growth of treated plants. The product is available as a wettable powder that can be applied to the soil, providing a targeted biological solution for nematode management.
