SK Chemicals and Malaysian firm to promote biobased kitchenware materials

SK Chemicals has signed an MOU with Malaysia’s LH Plus to supply biobased and recycled plastics for kitchenware products. The agreement aims to boost the use of sustainable materials in the market through 2027. The signing took place at LH Plus headquarters in Malaysia, with representatives from both companies attending.

LH Plus, Malaysia’s leading kitchenware manufacturer, produces around six million products annually, including food and beverage containers. It supplies many global brands and holds a dominant position in Malaysia’s market.

Under the deal, SK Chemicals will supply up to 2,000 tons of ECOZEN, a biomass-based copolyester, and SKYPET CR, a circular recycled PET made from waste plastics. ECOZEN is valued for its transparency and BPA-free safety, suitable for food containers. SKYPET CR is produced via advanced depolymerization, converting waste plastics into high-quality raw materials.

The materials can produce roughly 100 million 1-liter water bottles. Both companies plan to collaborate on developing new kitchenware products utilizing ECOZEN and SKYPET CR, emphasizing sustainability. This partnership aims to meet increasing global demand for eco-friendly, biobased, and recycled kitchenware solutions.

Callum Chen, CEO of LH Plus, highlighted SK Chemicals’ versatile portfolio of bio-based and recycled materials. He said the partnership will strengthen LH Plus’s ability to offer sustainable products to international markets.
