RENOVA Inc., a Japan-based company, has recently announced that their Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant has commenced. This facility, situated in Tokushima City, Japan, is powered by wood pellets and palm kernel shells.
The Port of Tokushima-Komatsushima, where the facility is located, is renowned as one of Japan’s largest lumber industrial parks, as stated by RENOVA. During a period of rapid economic growth, the port used to receive significant amounts of foreign timber to meet the soaring domestic demand for housing. However, over time, the usage of the port has declined. With the start of the Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant’s operation, it is expected that the port will experience a revitalization. This will occur through the utilization of port facilities for the arrival and departure of fuel transport vessels, as well as the creation of new job opportunities.
The Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant is one of several biomass power plants developed by RENOVA. In November, the company also announced the commencement of operations for their 75-MW Morinomiyako Biomass Power Plant. Additionally, RENOVA currently operates the 20.5 MW Akita Biomass facility and the 75 MW Kanda Biomass plant. Furthermore, there are several biomass plants under construction, including the 75 MW Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass plant, the 75 MW Omaezakikou Biomass plant, and the 49.9 MW Karatsu Biomass facility.
