A significant investment in renewable energy has been announced in the Port of South Louisiana, with Canadian company Woodland Biofuels set to develop a renewable natural gas (RNG) plant and ultra-green hydrogen facility. The project, which uses waste biomass to produce sustainable biofuel, will be located at the Globalplex facility at the Port of South Louisiana.
The first phase of the project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2028, with plans to remove 210,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. The second phase is expected to remove nearly 660,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, with the potential to store them underground.
To support the project, the Louisiana Economic Development agency has offered a package worth $250 million in incentives to Woodland Biofuels. This includes performance-based grants and comprehensive workforce development solutions.
The project is expected to have a significant impact on the region’s economy, creating jobs and stimulating local growth. The development of renewable energy infrastructure is also seen as a key step towards reducing the state’s carbon footprint and meeting its environmental goals.
Woodland Biofuels’ use of waste biomass to produce sustainable biofuel is an innovative approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable energy. The company’s commitment to developing this technology is a welcome investment in the region’s future.
