Cauldron Ferm, an innovative biomanufacturer, is set to launch a precision fermentation contract manufacturing facility in Mackay, backed by the Queensland Government’s Industry Partnership Program (IPP). This initiative aligns with Queensland’s strategy to develop industries that support global decarbonization efforts.
The upcoming Cauldron Bio-fab will be the first and largest end-to-end contract manufacturer for precision fermented bioproducts in the Asia-Pacific region. The facility aims to enhance traditional production methods and address critical issues such as food security, domestic supply chains, and job creation through localized production.
Utilizing Cauldron’s proprietary hyper-fermentation technology, the facility seeks to significantly reduce production costs, making bioproducts competitive with conventional goods. It is projected to have an annual manufacturing capacity of over 1,000 tonnes, serving multiple sectors, including food, nutrition, materials, personal care, chemicals, and biofuels.
Queensland’s Minister for State Development and Infrastructure, Grace Grace, highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “With government support, Cauldron is a step closer to becoming a first-of-its-kind facility producing key ingredients at a commercial scale.”
Michele Stansfield, Co-Founder and CEO of Cauldron, expressed her appreciation for the Queensland Government’s support, noting that the funding will facilitate the scaling of their innovative technology. The establishment of the Mackay facility represents a significant advancement in biomanufacturing, promoting sustainable industrial practices and aligning with global trends toward reducing carbon footprints.
