Pivot Bio, a leading agricultural technology company, announced a new partnership with the Soil and Water Outcomes Fund (SWOF). The collaboration will allow farmers in Indiana and Illinois to use Pivot Bio’s nitrogen-fixing products, PROVEN® 40 and PROVEN® G3 corn. This program supports sustainable farming practices.
The partnership links Pivot Bio’s solutions with SWOF’s network of agricultural and food companies. These companies want verified environmental results in their supply chains. Farmers using Pivot Bio’s products can reduce synthetic fertilizer use. They can also lower greenhouse gases and nitrogen runoff. At the same time, they can maintain or improve crop yields.
Lori Reese, Pivot Bio’s head of sustainability, said the partnership is a natural step for their N-OVATOR® program. This program helps farmers replace synthetic nitrogen with biological nitrogen. Combining Pivot Bio products with SWOF practices like cover cropping and reduced tillage offers environmental and economic benefits.
Since 2022, Pivot Bio’s N-OVATOR® program has paid over $13 million to farmers for verified nitrogen replacement. In 2024, 1.4 million acres are enrolled. SWOF pays farmers about $33 per acre for conservation and sustainable practices. Farmers can participate in only one of these programs for the same land in a year.
In recent years, farmers using Pivot Bio products reduced synthetic nitrogen by over 37 pounds per acre. They also improved nitrogen use efficiency by 16%. Through SWOF, farmers can earn revenue for environmental benefits.
Reese said, “Farmers can now be rewarded for water quality and emissions reductions.” Adam Kiel from SWOF added that better fertilizer management helps reduce farm emissions. The partnership starts immediately. Farmers can order Pivot Bio products for the 2026 season to improve yields and earn payments for ecosystem services.
