Paboco has launched the first commercially available paper bottle combined with a fiber-based cap, a notable advancement in sustainable packaging. Developed in collaboration with Blue Ocean Closures, this groundbreaking product is set to reach consumers by early 2025.

Leveraging years of expertise, Paboco’s new packaging solution emphasizes sustainability by minimizing plastic use. The entire package, including the bottle and cap, weighs under 16 grams, with the HDPE barrier accounting for less than 2 grams, ensuring that it remains recyclable as paper. This development signifies a major step forward for the company and eco-conscious brands.

Michael Michelsen, Commercial Director of Paboco, remarked, “This development enhances material choices within the packaging industry while prioritizing lightweight solutions. We are introducing a new reality in packaging.”

Ola Tönnberg, Chief Commercial Officer of Blue Ocean Closures, expressed enthusiasm about establishing a new standard for packaging and reducing reliance on plastic.

This launch is part of Paboco’s initiative to scale paper bottles by the end of 2025 and explore innovative bio-based solutions. The company is collaborating with its Pioneer Community—an alliance of businesses supporting paper bottle technology.

The Absolut Group is also part of this community, with Elin Furelid, Director of Future of Packaging, highlighting the significance of this milestone for sustainable packaging.

As production ramps up, Paboco’s innovative solution represents a pivotal moment in the push for more sustainable practices in the packaging sector.
