Origin Materials, a company dedicated to enabling the world’s shift to sustainable materials, announced a strategic partnership with Royal Hordijk Packaging. Hordijk is a Dutch leader in developing sustainable plastic packaging solutions. Together, they will mass produce PET bottle caps.
Hordijk has over 100 years of experience in packaging innovation. The company focuses on sustainability and circular packaging solutions. It develops and manufactures plastic packaging for food, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and horticulture. Hordijk serves customers in more than 25 countries.
In this partnership, Hordijk will use its PET extruders to produce extruded sheets. These sheets will be used in Origin’s CapFormer production lines, which are operated by Hordijk in their EU facilities. The CapFormer lines will convert PET sheets into bottle caps, including tethered caps. They will use high-speed equipment supported by top-tier operations and technical services.
John Bissell, CEO of Origin Materials, said: “Hordijk combines expert manufacturing, a strong presence in Europe, and global reach. They bring PET extruders and extrusion expertise that can reduce capital costs for our CapFormer lines. We look forward to producing billions of PET caps together and advancing packaging to its next stage.”
Rik Hennink, CEO of Hordijk, shared: “We believe the future of packaging is circular. Our partnership with Origin aligns with our mission to innovate and reduce environmental impact. Scaling production of PET caps with extrusion technology supports our goal of creating high-performing, sustainable packaging solutions.”
Origin’s PET caps represent a major breakthrough in packaging. They enhance recyclability, especially with tethered caps, enable lightweighting, and help extend product shelf life. This market is valued at over $65 billion. By partnering with industry leaders like Hordijk, Origin is tackling key sustainability challenges. Our mission remains to help the world transition to sustainable materials.
