Chinese agricultural technology company Origin Agritech announced several major developments. These moves aim to expand its operations, strengthen its market position, and support future growth.
The company received a new license from Beijing’s agriculture authorities. This license allows Origin to produce, process, package, and sell corn seeds. It will help increase its production capacity and improve its infrastructure in China.
With this approval, Origin now holds two seed production licenses in China. One is through its subsidiary Xinjiang OriginBio Seed Limited. This allows the company to operate in more regions and diversify its revenue streams.
Beijing authorities also approved the inclusion of genetically modified (GMO) crop seed production in Origin’s business scope. This move positions the company to enter China’s growing GMO seed market. However, each GMO crop will still need individual approval before being sold commercially.
In addition, Origin increased the registered capital of its subsidiary Beijing Origin Seed Ltd. from RMB 30 million (about US$4.2 million) to RMB 100 million (about US$14 million). The company also completed a strategic restructuring. It consolidated key production and sales units under Beijing Origin. This creates a central hub that streamlines operations and supports future growth.
These initiatives strengthen Origin’s ability to serve farmers in North China and beyond. The increased capital gives the company more financial flexibility. It can now invest in research, product innovation, and expansion.
CEO Weibin Yan said these moves are a transformative step. They position the company for faster growth. By integrating research, breeding, and sales, Origin aims to deliver its advanced seed technologies more efficiently.
