ioTalent Canada has announced the release of the National Skills Standard for Cleanroom Readiness, aimed at addressing the skills shortages in the Canadian biomanufacturing industry. Developed with insights from industry experts, the standard provides a framework for employers to recruit and develop talent with essential cleanroom competencies.
The initiative, supported by the Future Skills Centre, is part of a broader effort by BioTalent Canada to enhance training for small and medium-sized businesses within Canada’s bio-economy. It also serves as a foundational element for a forthcoming cleanroom readiness certification program.
According to Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada, the standard is crucial as the industry anticipates a need for more than 5,000 skilled professionals by 2029 to support the growing bio-health sector. He noted that the establishment of clear standards will improve hiring practices and compliance with cleanroom protocols.
The cleanroom certification program is expected to further bolster workforce readiness, providing employers with confidence in their employees’ abilities to meet cleanroom requirements. This initiative aligns with national priorities for biomanufacturing self-sufficiency, particularly in key areas like vaccine production.
