Neste to supply biofuel SAF to Air New Zealand

Neste and Air New Zealand have reached an agreement to supply 30 million liters of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™, marking the airline’s largest purchase of biofuel to date. The SAF will be utilized by Air New Zealand at Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) international airports through February 2026.

This new agreement follows previous deliveries of Neste-produced biofuel to Air New Zealand at LAX in 2024 and at Auckland Airport in New Zealand in 2022. The SAF will be delivered through existing fuel supply systems at both U.S. airports.

Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand’s chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer, stated that this purchase represents 1.6% of the airline’s total fuel supply for the financial year 2025, allowing it to meet its SAF target for the year. While it remains a small fraction of overall fuel use, this volume is four times greater than the SAF used in financial year 2024.

Alexander Kueper, vice-president of the renewable aviation business at Neste, expressed pride in supporting Air New Zealand’s efforts to increase the use of biofuel to lower aviation emissions. He noted that this supply of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at both airports represents a significant step in their collaboration, aimed at helping the airline achieve its climate goals.
