Moeve has become the first external sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supplier to join Avelia, a leading blockchain-powered platform for booking and claiming SAF. The platform aims to expand the use of SAF by facilitating a scalable, transparent approach to decarbonizing aviation.
Avelia operates on a chain-of-custody model, where the administrative record flow does not necessarily follow the physical movement of fuel throughout the supply chain, in line with ISO 22095:2020 standards. This book and claim system helps reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from aviation and makes SAF benefits more accessible across the entire sector.
By partnering with Avelia, Moeve supports its Positive Motion strategy, encouraging greater adoption of SAF and helping to make it a more commercially viable solution in the energy transition.
Moeve is a leading SAF producer in Spain, manufacturing sustainable jet fuel at its La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva from used cooking oils. They promote the circular economy and support aviation decarbonization efforts.
The company is also developing a 2G biofuels facility in Huelva through a joint venture. It has the capacity to produce up to 500,000 tonnes of SAF and renewable diesel annually. Moeve aims to reach an overall SAF production capacity of 800,000 tonnes per year by 2030.
As of June 30, 2025, Avelia has helped inject over 41 million gallons of SAF into existing fuel networks at 17 airport injection points worldwide. To date, 57 corporations and airlines have completed transactions through the platform.
In July 2025, Avelia announced its evolution into a multi-supplier platform, allowing users to access GHG benefits from multiple SAF providers, including Shell and Moeve. The inclusion of Moeve broadens SAF options for airlines, corporations, freight forwarders, and shippers.
