Biotech startup Interstellar Lab, which develops a biofarming platform that combines advanced hardware, AI-enabled control, and science for high-precision botanicals, has joined the incubation program from L’Oréal Green Sciences Incubator. The collaboration aims to explore the potential of Interstellar Lab’s BioPod product, an AI-controlled biofarm that accelerates production cycles and increases the production of bioactive compounds in plants.
Interstellar Lab, founded in 2018, creates and operates biofarming solutions to optimize plant cultivation and molecular composition on Earth and in space. Their controlled environment modules enable sustainable, high-precision cultivation of high-value-added plants used by the Natural Ingredients, Cosmetics, Pharmaceuticals, and Food industries. The startup’s first product, BioPod, uses an integrated water treatment system that consumes 99% less water than traditional agriculture and eliminates waste and runoff. It also captures CO2 from Earth’s atmosphere to enrich its controlled environment and does not require a foundation, allowing for installation in various locations without harming the environment.
The incubation project supports L’Oréal’s commitment to sourcing 95% of its ingredients from bio-sourced materials by 2030. By merging biology and new technologies, Interstellar Lab has created a unique field of knowledge and innovation that aligns with L’Oréal Green Sciences’ approach. The collaboration between the two companies aims to explore the potential of BioPod for sourcing a variety of molecules and active ingredients for L’Oréal’s products.
