Godavari Biorefineries and ICT Mumbai launch world’s first CO₂-to-DME pilot plant

Godavari Biorefineries Limited has partnered with ICT Mumbai to launch the world’s first single-step CO₂-to-DME pilot plant. This is a major milestone for circular carbon solutions. The plant converts carbon dioxide into DME, a clean fuel alternative to LPG, diesel, and chemical feedstocks.

This innovation is a step toward energy security and a net-zero future. The pilot plant demonstrates how CO₂ emissions can be reused. It offers a sustainable way to produce fuel from waste gases.

Shri Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries, expressed pride in the project. “This is an innovation we are proud to partner to take forward. By converting CO2 into clean fuel, we’re not only strengthening India’s energy security but also demonstrating how circular, sustainable solutions can drive real climate impact.”

The process turns CO₂ emissions into Dimethyl Ether, a versatile, eco-friendly fuel. It aims to create a net-zero system that reduces greenhouse gases. The project supports India’s clean energy goals and reduces reliance on fossil fuels.

This pilot plant marks a breakthrough in carbon recycling technology. It proves that single-step processes can efficiently convert CO₂ into valuable fuels. The collaboration between Godavari and ICT Mumbai highlights India’s leadership in sustainable energy.
