The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) has appointed Dr. Peter Williams as its new governing board leader. He will support the center’s continued impact on the expanding bioeconomy. This appointment aims to strengthen the sector.
Williams brings over four decades of experience from the chemicals industry. He currently sits on the UK’s Building a Green Future Advisory Board. Previously, he served on the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. He began at INEOS in 2006 as CEO of INEOS Technologies. Before that, he spent 20 years at BP.
He is also a member of the Supervisory Board for Avantium NV. This Netherlands-based business is commercializing a bio-based polyester. His experience is highly relevant to IBioIC’s mission.
Williams will oversee IBioIC’s strategic efforts in Scotland and the UK. He’ll help companies translate research into large-scale innovation. This will use more sustainable, biobased processes and materials. IBioIC has helped attract £35 million in research funding since 2014.
Dr. Peter Williams stated that IBioIC is crucial to the bioeconomy. It guides companies toward funding, investment, and skill development. The center also provides expertise and scale-up facilities. Further geographical spread is key to success.
