The Government of Canada has recently granted a sum of more than $12 million (€8.7 million) in funding to several biofuel and RNG projects.
Through these investments, the Canadian government is seeking to improve the country’s competitive advantage, open diverse market opportunities, create jobs, as well as reduce emissions in order to meet its environmental targets. At the GLOBE Forum 2022, Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced the investment in seven organisations advancing emerging clean technologies.
The University of British Columbia in Vancouver was granted funds of $1,160,587 (€842,000) to create breakthrough advances in thermochemical processes to optimise and economically produce RNG from forest residues.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco, located in Hamilton, Ontario, received a sum of $1,852,941 (€1.34 million) which will be used to demonstrate the ability to apply biocarbon in an industrial blast furnace in support of future commercial technology demonstration at the ArcelorMittal Dofasco plant.
Another notable organisation, Canfor Pulp in Prince George, British Columbia, received $4,583,000 (€3.32 million) to carry out a front-end engineering design study to support a biomass-to-low-carbon biofuel plant, which will produce advanced biofuels to be used as a liquid transportation fuel.
“The Government of Canada is pleased to invest in projects that position Canada’s natural resource sectors as leaders on the global stage,” said Wilkinson. “Through innovative ideas and with dedicated partners, we are helping to grow the economy in a way that is compatible with our climate commitments.”
