A new partnership between Allonnia, a biotechnology company focused on extracting value from waste, and Mining3, a world-leading research organization, aims to accelerate the development and scaling of sustainable mining innovations. The collaboration brings together Allonnia’s biologically-based solutions with Mining3’s extensive network of mining companies and researchers.
Allonnia is developing three platforms to drive sustainable practices in the mining industry. Its “Bio-Solubilization” platform selectively dissolves gangue from valuable minerals, upgrading ores and concentrates. “Bio-Cementation” uses microbial-based technology to stabilize tailings and prevent liquefaction in shipped concentrates. “Bio-Extraction” employs enzymes to selectively recover energy-critical elements, such as rare earths, from mixed-metal aqueous streams.
The partnership with Mining3 will enable Allonnia to leverage the organization’s industry knowledge and research capabilities to create impactful solutions that address environmental challenges in mining. “This collaboration is a significant step for us as we strive to bring our sustainable innovations to the mining industry at an accelerated pace,” said Dan Stigers, VP of Business Development for Mining at Allonnia.
