BharatRohan, a leader in precision agriculture, has unveiled the BharatRohan Pragati card, designed specifically to enhance the agricultural practices of Indian farmers. Developed in partnership with Obopay and Mastercard, this innovative financial tool serves as a multi-wallet system that offers both open and closed loop transaction capabilities.
The Pragati card aims to streamline access to essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and modern technologies, including drone services for crop monitoring.
In an effort to promote sustainable farming practices, BharatRohan plans to incentivize 200,000 farmers to adopt drone-based crop monitoring services. This initiative will not only enhance crop management but also empower farmers to make data-driven decisions for improved yields.
The card operates with an underlying prepaid wallet, allowing farmers to make purchases at any merchant that accepts Mastercard. An easy onboarding process will enable farmers to apply for season-specific loans ranging from approximately $60 to $600, to support various stages of their cropping cycle.
Amandeep Panwar, CEO and Co-founder of BharatRohan, emphasized the commitment to sustainable agriculture, stating that the Pragati card is designed to reward farmers for adopting eco-friendly practices. Farmers can earn redeemable points that can offset future input costs by implementing these sustainable practices.
Additionally, the collaboration will enable farmers to participate in carbon credit programs, generating revenue through eco-conscious cultivation techniques, such as Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in rice farming.
With a goal to reach 500,000 farmers by 2027, the Pragati card aligns with broader efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and double farmers’ incomes. This initiative represents a commitment to merging financial access, agricultural innovation, and sustainability into a cohesive solution for India’s farming community.
