BASF expands APG production in Thailand

BASF has announced the expansion of its Alkyl Polyglucosides (APGs) manufacturing capabilities with a new plant at its Bangpakong facility in Thailand. This strategic move aims to bolster regional supply and cater to increasing market demand for bio-surfactants.

The new capacity complements BASF’s existing global APG network, which includes sites in Germany, China, and a forthcoming plant in the United States set to start operations in 2026.

This expansion underscores BASF’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Asia, a key growth region, and providing customers with more agile and flexible service options. Mary Kurian, President of Care Chemicals, emphasized that this investment enhances regional supply resilience, enabling faster delivery of sustainable, high-performance solutions across multiple sectors, including personal care, home care, and industrial applications.

BASF’s APGs are bio-based, biodegradable, and derived entirely from renewable raw materials. Their mild surfactant properties make them suitable for a broad range of formulations. Due to their non-ionic nature and sustainable profile, APGs are highly versatile, finding applications in personal care products, cleaning agents, industrial formulations, and agricultural solutions.

The company’s global network also includes a new APG production line in Cincinnati, scheduled for completion in 2026, which will further increase capacity in North America.
