Arkema launches biobased acrylic binders for performance textiles

Arkema has introduced a new range of ENCOR® biobased waterborne dispersions intended for textile printing and finishing applications. These binders contain up to 30% bio-based content and are designed to reduce the carbon footprint of textile products by up to 40% compared to traditional textile resins.

The textile industry is responsible for approximately 6 to 8% of global emissions, and there is a growing demand for more sustainable practices. Arkema’s new binders aim to assist textile manufacturers in lowering their carbon emissions and contributing to more sustainable production methods.

Arkema emphasized a holistic approach to sustainability, which includes using safer ingredients, such as formulations that are free from formaldehyde and APEO, and compliant with Oeko-Tex® Eco Passport standards. The products are also designed to be suitable for food contact.

The company is focusing on improving the overall lifecycle of its products, including efforts to enhance biodegradability, increase durability, and improve color solidity and washing resistance in future grades. This initiative reflects the ongoing trend toward more sustainable solutions in the textile sector.
